5 LADIES ON EITHER SIDE OF 50 TO DO 5 DRAKENSBERG PEAKS IN 5 DAYS
A PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN CHALLENGE IN AN ATTEMPT TO STOP CRIME
AND IN DOING SO ALSO HIGHLIGHT THE MAGNIFICENCE OF THE DRAKENSBERG
94.7 Highveld Stereo News Clip:
Five Ladies are currently undergoing a 2 month fitness and health boot camp sponsored by Fitness From Africa to prepare for the above challenge. It should be noted that none of the said women were very high on the Richter scale of the fitness index monitor to start with so this is definitely a life-changing challenge and changes are most certainly already taking place!
Our reasons are two-fold:
Firstly we believe that one doesn’t need an Everest expedition to tackle a worthwhile challenge and one certainly doesn’t need to travel to far corners of the planet to experience the magnificence of mountains. The Drakensberg is on our doorstep and accessible geographically and financially to most. We are also aware that the biggest dilemma facing our country, especially, pre-2010 Soccer World Cup. is the Crime element. And this brings us to our second but most important reason for taking on this challenge. We’re climbing to curb crime!
We have each, individually, committed to taking time out from our businesses and families in order to draw attention, raise funds and ultimately do our small part in the fight against crime. The breeding ground for a criminal is clearly identified as being a place where there is a lack of education, opportunity and recreation. Therefore, these are the two major projects that we are running (or climbing) with in an attempt to start filling these voids:
- The 2Simple Trust Fund has been set up by the educational software company, 2Simple, for the purpose of funding underdeveloped schools, specifically focusing on the development and maintenance of computer centres. However, the fund also allows for young South Africans to apply for bursaries in order to attain a post matric qualification and gain a trade and/or degree/diploma, thus directing young energies in a positive and more productive direction than the notoriously easy route of Crime.
- The second project is the Fitness for Africa (FFA) sports clinic project. FFA have highlighted a need for sporting facilities in a number of underdeveloped areas in and around Gauteng. It is common knowledge that sport brings people together and gives meaning and purpose to otherwise meaningless lives but is also, on the whole, a privilege inaccessible to many. The finer details and costing of these proposed sporting clinics and facilities have been documented in detail by FFA who have already put together an action plan for the setting up of rugby, cross country and gym training clinics in 2009. The initial project will be the sports centre at the Cosmos City High School which would also serve the surrounding community.
Our detailed story was featured in the Crime Watch section of the Johannesburg Star on the newspaper on Monday 11th August 2008 and will be followed up again in September before our climb and then again after the, God willing and bodies willing, successful trip. We are also currently discussing further radio and TV coverage but the exact details are still pending. Two well known and widely read magazines will also be doing a story. We have also designed a dedicated and interactive website where all our sponsors will be acknowledged with links to their own websites. The website address is www.climbagainstcrime.co.za.
Our guides on the trip will be Gavin Raubenheimer and Colin McCoy from Peak High Adventures in Pietermaritsburg and it should be mentioned that we are each, individually, covering all our own costs pertaining to this challenge. All sponsorships would go directly to the abovementioned projects.
We would, therefore, like to approach your company for a sponsorship of R_________ . Full details of our Fund target, budget and subsequent distribution of funds will be available on the 2Simple website, www.2Simple.co.za, or on our dedicated 555 CLIMB AGAINST CRIME interactive website on www.climbagainstcrime.co.za.
We have, in anticipation of your positive response, attached a sponsorship form with details and trust that you would be able and willing to support this Crime Prevention Project and our team’s effort to try and make that difference.
Should you require any further information please contact Vivien Laverge on 0827880081, Michelle Holiday on 0833268775 or Lorraine Dalton on 0823379887. The land line number for 2Simple is 011-6568847 and fax number is 011-4683291.
